Product Overview

The XY Air Stage, also known as a multi-axis linear positioning system, is a precision positioning platform that integrates two orthogonally arranged linear motion stages in a stacked cross configuration. It uses rolling-element or air-bearing guideways for motion guidance, combined with precision ball screws or linear motors for actuation. High-resolution linear scales or magnetic scales can be integrated to provide fully closed-loop control for precise two-dimensional linear motion.

For ball screw-driven configurations, a servo motor rotates the ball screw, while the ball nut converts rotary motion into linear displacement. Preloaded double nuts or high-lead ball screws can be employed to minimize backlash and achieve repeatable positioning accuracy of ±0.5–1 μm. In linear motor-driven configurations, the intermediate mechanical transmission chain is eliminated, reducing elastic deformation and friction-induced hysteresis. This enables higher acceleration, exceeding 2G in some configurations, as well as faster settling times.

The cross-stacked architecture provides a compact working envelope, with the X-axis guideway serving as the moving base for the Y-axis. Compared with gantry-type structures, the overall footprint is significantly reduced. Each axis can also be manufactured and maintained as an independent standardized module, helping reduce system integration costs. Since the motion axes are fully decoupled, the static and dynamic stiffness of each axis can be optimized independently. High-rigidity roller guideways or air bearings further provide excellent resistance to lateral loads and high motion straightness.

Precision XY Cross Linear Stages are widely used in precision dispensing, micro-component placement, optical alignment and inspection, wafer dicing, and research microscopy. They are particularly suited to automated equipment requiring high precision, high cleanliness, and a compact installation footprint. As a compact and cost-effective solution for precision two-dimensional motion, they offer a simple and reliable alternative to more complex multi-axis positioning architectures.
